Class AAA -- Mick Abel struggled again on Thursday night, allowing seven runs (five earned) on eight hits over 4 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out six. Abel has now given up nine earned runs in his last two starts (10 innings), pushing his ERA to 6.06 over 21 starts this season with a 1.79 WHIP. It's been a disappointing campaign for the 23-year-old. With the Phillies facing rotation challenges, Abel could have been a candidate for a late-season call-up, but his recent performance suggests he’s not yet ready to take that step.
Class AA -- West Chester graduate Braeden Fausnaught has impressed in his first three starts with Reading. The left-hander tossed six solid innings on Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out eight. Though he's 0-2 in those outings, Fausnaught has given up just six runs over 16 1/3 innings, posting a 3.31 ERA with 19 strikeouts and a 1.29 WHIP.
Class A -- Catcher Eduardo Tait has continued to perform well since moving up from the Florida Complex League to Single-A Clearwater. The 17-year-old was named an FCL All-Star, leading the league with 49 RBIs and finishing in the top five in several hitting categories, including homers and hits.
Before his July 23rd call-up to the Threshers, Tait posted a .321/.377/.500 slash line in 51 FCL games, with six home runs and 49 RBIs. He was also perfect in stolen base attempts, going 5-for-5, and had an OPS of .877. Defensively, he threw out 12 of 41 potential base stealers behind the plate.
Tait has continued to make an impact with Clearwater. In his first 25 games with the Threshers, he has hit five home runs and driven in 19 RBIs.
