Just a week ago, the sky appeared to be falling for the Phillies. But after a 4-2 homestand, there’s a sense that the club is starting to regain some positive momentum. The caveat? That homestand came against the Marlins and Nationals, two of the league’s bottom feeders. With a tougher slate of opponents on deck this week, we’ll get a much clearer picture of where the Phillies truly stand.

Phillies Update (73-51) - The Phillies will try to extend their NL East lead this week as they come to Atlanta with a seven-game cushion in the division. Trea Turner, who had struggled mightily earlier this month, pieced together an outstanding homestand and capped things off with a 10-for-17 performance in the series against Washington, with four extra-base hits and four RBIs. The Phillies have a team batting average of .288 over the past two weeks, the third highest mark in baseball over that span.
Braves Update (66-58) - The Braves lost Austin Riley for the rest of the regular season with a broken right hand, so the club inked Gio Urshela to a deal on Tuesday morning. Urshela, 32, was released by the Tigers on Sunday after hitting .243
with five homers and a .619 OPS over 92 games for Detroit this season. Riley hit .256 with 19 homers and a .783 OPS this year. The club also moved reliever A.J. Minter to the 60-day IL following hip surgery, confirming he also will miss the rest of the regular season.
