Ryan Madden delivered in the clutch Wednesday night, belting a walk-off two-run double to lift Rake past the Philly Mummers, 3-2, in a thrilling first-round Philly Select Collegiate League playoff game.
The clubs were knotted at 1-1 through seven frames, forcing the game into extra innings. The Mummers seized a brief advantage in the top of the eighth when Jordan Czerniak singled to right, driving in the go-ahead run.
Madden, unfazed by the pressure, stepped to the plate in the bottom of the inning and lashed a double down the left-field line, bringing home two runs and igniting a jubilant celebration. Bobby Hansen came across the plate as the extra-inning ghost runner, while Ryan Bauerle also scored after reaching via a single.
Madden finished the night 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Rake starter Brian Williams was impressive, allowing one run on three hits over five innings while striking out six. Logan Woodward was equally effective in relief, fanning eight across 2 2/3 scoreless innings.
Czerniak was the standout for the Mummers, contributing two of the team's four hits.
With the victory, Rake advances to face the top-seeded Bucks County Ghost on Thursday. In another playoff matchup, the Philly Fightin' Quakers will take on the Philly Bandits.
