Joe Kaleck had an outstanding performance for No. 21 West Chester in Friday's season opener, going 4-for-5 at the plate. He launched a pair of home runs, scored five runs, and drove in four RBIs, playing a pivotal role in West Chester's commanding 17-5 victory over Charleston (W.Va.) at Kenny Greenlief Field in Glenville, WV.
Avery Spencer nearly completed the cycle as well. Together, they amassed a remarkable combined effort, batting 7-for-11 on the day. Their impressive stat line included three home runs, two doubles, and a total of 10 RBIs. Kaleck came close to hitting for the cycle, missing only a triple, while Spencer fell just short of the cycle, needing only a double to complete the feat.
Golden Rams' starting pitcher, Julian Costa tossed five strong innings to earn the win on the hill. He allowed four runs, three of them earned, on five hits. He walked three and struck out three.
John DeMucci chipped in with two hits and an RBI.
In other Philly D-II action on Friday, Jefferson walloped West Virginia State, 14-1.
Jem Sisco collected 13 strikeouts while tossing five frames. He surrendered one run on four hits.
Five players in the starting lineup for Jefferson had at least two RBIs on the day. Josh Lopez finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs.
Chestnut Hill fell to the University of New Haven, 6-1. Michael Pascoe finished 4-for-5 on the night for the Griffins. Jake Schweiker took the loss, surrendering two runs (one earned) over five frames.
