Owen Coady was dominant on Friday night, tossing seven solid innings while surrendering one unearned run and one hit as Penn knocked off undefeated Lamar at Vincent-Beck Stadium, 6-1.
Coady, who struggled in the season opener against South Carolina last week, was magnificent. He walked just one and whiffed four.
The Quakers (1-3) took advantage of several defensive miscues by the Cardinals, scoring four runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach.
Wyatt Henseler finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and made several outstanding plays with the glove, including a diving stop and throw from third base in the seventh.
Bryce Mangene tossed two innings to close out the contest, surrendering two hits.
The Cardinals entered Friday's contest riding a nine-game winning streak to open the season.
The two clubs return to action on Saturday.
