Ryan McCarty
Penn State Abington senior Ryan McCarty is a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award, USA Baseball announced on Tuesday. McCarty is one of 31 semifinalists in the running to be named the top amateur baseball player of the year.

The Yardley native currently leads Division III in batting (.529), hits (100), runs (89), RBI (91), total bases (220), slugging percentage (1.164), and is ranked second nationally with 27 doubles. McCarty set the Division III single-season record with 220 total bases, and his 89 runs tied the single season mark.

He's also just the second Division III player to record 100-plus hits in a single season. In 162 career games played, McCarty is Abington's all-time leader in average (.439), hits (284), doubles (77), triples (11), home runs (42), RBI (210), runs (222) and walks (94).

USA Baseball will announce the finalists on June 8.
