Andrew Hernandez hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs to pace Penn as the Quakers beat Saint Joseph's at Meiklejohn Stadium on Wednesday, 7-4.
Hernandez put the Quakers on the board in the second, lofting an RBI single to left field to give Penn a one-run advantage. The Hawks answered in the fourth with Tim Cavanaugh launching a solo blast to right field to even the contest. The tie was shortlived though as Hernandez crushed a two-run shot in the bottom of the frame to push Penn ahead.
Cole Palis and Seth Werchan collected two hits each in the win.
Penn carried a 7-1 lead into the ninth before Travis Rinker launched a three-run homer for the Hawks, but reliever Danny Heintz escaped without surrendering another run.
Conlan Wall finished 3-for-4 for the Hawks, while Cavanaugh collected two hits.
The Quakers used nine pitchers on the afternoon, combining for 13 strikeouts.
Penn (23-9) now awaits a weekend visit from Brown, while Saint Joseph's (20-14) travels to Richmond for a weekend series with Virginia Commonwealth.
