The Phillies made some additional roster moves just before the weekend, outrighting Odubel Herrera, Andrew Knapp, Ronald Torreyes, Ramon Rosso, J.D. Hammer, and Travis Jankowski.
All six players cleared waivers and elected free agency.
Herrera became arbitration-eligible earlier in the week when the club declined his 2022 option. Knapp, though a solid defender behind the dish, hit just .152 last year. Torreyes was great as a utility guy, but opening that role now gives the club more roster flexibility. Hammer and Rosso are two bullpen arms that never reached their potential.
Some of these players may return to the club if they decide to ink a Minor League deal. Both Torreyes and Jankowski came to camp last spring as non-roster invitees on Minor League contracts.
The Phillies now have five players eligible for salary arbitration, including pitchers Zach Eflin, Jose Alvarado, and Seranthony Dominguez, outfielder Roman Quinn, and first baseman Rhys Hoskins.
The club also must transfer Hoskins, Quinn, Eflin, and JoJo Romero from the Injured List to the 40-man roster.
