The Phillies return to the diamond on Friday with a doubleheader at Citizens Bank Park against the Marlins. The club entered the All-Star break on a roll, winning back-to-back road series against the Cubs and Red Sox and taking eight of their last 12 contests.

The Phillies are 44-44 and sit 3 1/2 games behind the division-leading Mets.

Left-hander Matt Moore and righty Zach Eflin will start for the Phillies in the twin-bill. The Marlins will use right-hander Sandy Alcantara as their starter in Game 1 but have not yet announced plans for Game 2.

The club will be without third baseman Alec Bohm for the series as he remains in COVID protocol.

The Phillies have a home-heavy schedule over the next two weeks as 12 of their next 14 games are contests at home against divisional rivals. It's no secret the club needs some reinforcements to make a serious run at a postseason berth, so the decision for the front office to go out and make a move or two hinges on the club's success over the coming two weeks.

An Old Flame
Free-agent and former Philadelphia hurler Cole Hamels will pitch for scouts on Friday. The Phillies, Mets, Yankees, and Red Sox are all believed to have an interest in signing the 37-year-old left-hander. Hamels was limited to just one start during the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign due to shoulder and triceps injuries.

Hamels spent ten seasons in Philadelphia and was a vital piece in helping the club to the 2008 World Series. The Phillies traded him to the Rangers at the 2015 trade deadline.

Roster Moves
The Phillies reinstated reliever Bailey Falter from the COVID-related IL and recalled outfielder Matt Vierling to be the 27th-man for Friday's doubleheader. The club also optioned reliever Damon Jones to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
