Fuld named GM as Phillies finalize front office shuffle

Sam Fuld named Phillies GM
Former major leaguer Sam Fuld has been named the Phillies’ new general manager, President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski announced on Tuesday.

Fuld, 39, has worked in the Phillies' front office since 2017 and was connected as a candidate to multiple managerial and front-office vacancies around Major League Baseball. The Stanford graduate spent last season as the director of integrative baseball performance with the Phils where he oversaw athletic training, strength and conditioning, and nutrition. He spent his first two years with the organization as the major league player information coordinator, working with the coaching staff to integrate advanced metrics into the team.

Fuld spent parts of eight seasons in the bigs, playing with the Rays, Cubs, A’s and Twins from 2007-15.

In addition to Fuld's promotion, the club also announced the promotion of Jorge Velandia to assistant general manager and Terry Ryan to special assistant to the general manager.

Velandia played in the majors with six different clubs from 1997-2008 and has spent the past decade working in various capacities in the front office. Most recently, he was a special assistant to the GM, a role he held for four years.

Ryan has been with the Phillies for the past four seasons as a special assignment scout. He came to the organization following 31 years with the Minnesota Twins where he spent time as general manager."
