Former Phillies manager Frank Lucchesi, who guided the club for three seasons in the early 1970s, passed away on Saturday. He was 92-years-old.

Having spent several seasons managing in the minor leagues with the Phillies, the organization hired Lucchesi to helm the big league club prior to the 1970 season. In three years with the club, he posted a .416 winning percentage (166-233). He was fired in 1972 after the club won just 26 of its first 76 games.

Prior to managing, Lucchesi spent 13 seasons in the minors including stints with affiliates of the Yankees, Giants, and Phillies.

A native of San Francisco, he lived in the Dallas area and spent time managing the Rangers after he left Philadelphia.

“The Phillies are saddened to learn of the passing of Frank Lucchesi," the club said in a statement. "He began his managing career with the Phillies, spending 14 years as a skipper in the club’s minor league system before taking the helm of the major league team in 1970. In two and a half seasons as Phillies manager, Lucchesi had the distinction of leading the team to wins in the final game at Connie Mack Stadium and the first game at Veterans Stadium.”
