Phillies host the Cardinals
Nick Pivetta returns to the mound at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday as the Phillies welcome the St. Louis Cardinals for a quick three-game set before heading out on a west coast swing.

Pivetta pitched to an 8.35 ERA through his first four starts to open the season and was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He performed better with the IronPigs, posting a 3.41 ERA to go along with 50 strikeouts in 37 innings. He was 4-1 and gave up 22 hits and 20 walks.

"He has the stuff to succeed at this level," manager Gabe Kapler said earlier this year. "It's just a matter sometimes of confidence and believing in your stuff. He has to do more of that."

The Phillies open the series tied for the second most wins in the National League with 31, trailing only Los Angeles (36). The Cardinals, meanwhile, have won just three of their last 10 and sit four games behind the Cubs in the NL Central.

Adam Wainwright will start the series opener for the Cards, aiming to pitch beyond the fifth inning for just the second time in his last five starts. He's 4-4 on the year with a 4.82 ERA.
