Philadelphia Baseball - Catholic League's N-G takes title
Neumann-Goretti scored five runs in the opening frame and knocked off Bishop McCort, 7-4, in Friday’s Class 2A final at Penn State’s Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Catcher Eric Nardini and starting pitcher Phil Sanborn each collected RBI singles in the first and the Saints capitalized on four errors on the afternoon to secure their second straight Class 2A championship.

Sanborn tossed 4 1/3 innings while Joe Messina pulled the Saints from danger in the fourth to stave off the Crimson Crushers.

Ahead 5-3 in the fifth, the Saints plated a pair of runs in the frame on two wild pitches to increase their lead to 7-3.

"I couldn’t ask for anything more right now,” Messina said. “We love each other to death, and this was just a culmination of everything.”

The Saints, behind first-year coach Mike Zolk, finished the year 23-4.
