The Phillies are expected to name Matt Klentak as their next general manager, according to multiple sources.
Klentak, 35, was long viewed as a favorite to land the position given his ties to new Phillies president Andy MacPhail. The two worked together in Baltimore where Klentak was hired by MacPhail and served as director of baseball operations.
Klentak spent the last four seasons as an assistant general manager with the Los Angeles Angels.
A formal announcement of Klentak's hiring could come on Monday as the club begins its annual organization meetings in Clearwater on Monday night.
Oakland A's assistant GM Dan Kantrovitz and Tampa Bay Rays VP of baseball operations Chaim Bloom were also finalists for the position.
