This article is the first in a lengthy series chronicling the 1925 Hilldale baseball club and their journey through the Eastern Colored League.

Game Date: April 25, 1925
Hilldale 6, Harrisburg 2  | Game 1 of 58 | Hilldale Park
Best Press Coverage: Afro-American, (1925, May 2)
Starting Pitchers: Nip Winters vs. Ping Gardner

In front of the largest crowd ever to witness a contest at Hilldale Park, George Carr and Clint Thomas homered and led a Hilldale offense that erupted for six runs over the first two frames en route to a 6-2 win over the Harrisburg Giants.

Carr finished the afternoon with three hits and every other position player in the lineup chipped in with one each.

Harrisburg starter Ping Gardner failed to get through the second inning while Nip Winters tossed a complete game, scattering five hits to go with four strikeouts.

Oscar Charleston failed to record a hit but accounted for both Giants runs.

Prior to opening the Eastern Colored League portion of their schedule, Hilldale won two of three exhibition contests, including a 12-3 victory over the Passyunk Artisans on April 11, 1925.

Note: The box score is listed below, but take note of how it appears. Unlike today's box scores, newspapers prior to the 1940s normally would include only runs scored, hits, outs recorded as a fielder, assists, and errors. This makes stat tracking extremely difficult, but this is how it was done in 1925.
