Coming off a tough four-game set with the Brewers where the Phillies dropped three straight, the Rockies come to Philadelphia to open a three-game weekend set on Friday at Citizens Bank Park.

Rookie Cole Irvin will start in the series opener, aiming to build off of a fantastic debut on Sunday where he allowed just one run over seven innings against the Royals.

"He earned the opportunity to get additional looks," manager Gabe Kapler said earlier in the week.

The Phillies offense struggled against Milwaukee and the club was outscored 22-to-6 over the final three games of the series.

“They just outplayed us from every angle," Kapler told reporters after last night's 11-3 loss. "They pitched better, they swung the bats better, they played better defense, they made more pitches, they got more hits. It’s that simple -- they just outplayed us.”

The Rockies, meanwhile, comes to Citizens Bank Park following an off-day on Thursday. The club split a four-game set in Boston earlier this week and is two games below .500 while sitting in fourth place in the NL East.

Veteran Jon Gray will start the opener for the Rockies. He held the Phillies scoreless over six innings in a contest in Colorado on April 21. For the season, he's 3-3 with a 4.25 ERA.
