PBR - Danny Gato tossed six shutout innings and struck out four to lead Delaware past Lehigh 5-0 on Tuesday in a Liberty Bell Classic first round contest in Bethlehem.

Gato scattered three hits and walked none in the winning effort.

Leading 2-0, the Blue Hens broke the game open with a three run fifth.

Six different players recorded a hit for Delaware.

“We respect Delaware, they are great team, but everything they got early in the game was given to them by us with walks and errors,” said Lehigh head coach Sean Leary. “It was still only a 2-0 game, but we were a little frustrated that we gave them more opportunities. We just need to get back to the drawing board a little bit. Guys are pressing and we just need to make some of our own breaks.”

Lehigh had an opportunity to answer in the eighth, but failed to capitalize on a bases loaded situation with no outs.

Colin Gotzon took the loss, walking four and surrendering a run in 1 2/3 innings.
