Saint Joseph's jumped out to an early lead thanks to four runs over the first three frames to beat Coastal Carolina, 4-2, in the club's first contest of the Brittain Resorts Invitational on Friday in Conway, S.C.

Nate Thomas drilled a two-run shot in the third to highlight a three-run inning for the Hawks.

Brendan Hueth, Liam Bendo, and James McConnon each collected two hits apiece in the winning effort.

Jordan DiValerio pieced together another strong performance, surrendering two runs on four hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out seven. Luke Zimmerman tossed two scoreless innings in relief.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday with a contest against West Virginia at 2 P.M.

In other action

Brian Wildrick hurled seven scoreless innings while Bobby Heck and Will Brownlove each collected a pair of hits to lead Gwynedd Mercy to a 5-2 victory over Stevenson on Friday afternoon.

Billy Collins drove in a run in the first for the Griffins to give Gwynedd Mercy an early lead. The club added a pair of runs in the fourth and seventh innings to put the game out of reach.

Nick Price and Jake Martell each swiped a base in the winning effort.

The Griffins return to action on Saturday for a pair of games, facing Muhlenberg at 10 A.M. and Gallaudet at 2 P.M.
