Phillies like Manny Machado, but probably not enough to trade with Baltimore
It shouldn't come as a surprise that the Phillies have an interest in Baltimore's Manny Machado, but it's unlikely the club will chase after him this winter according to sources.

The 24-year-old struggled offensively at times last year but still put together a 107 OPS+ with 33 home runs and 95 RBIs. He'll be a free agent at the end of the 2018 season.

Machado has said he's interested in returning to shortstop, so that could be a bit of a problem for the Phillies who already have an influx of options in the middle infield, that is unless a middle infielder is part of the package sent to Baltimore.

Sources, however, told the Philadelphia Baseball Review on Tuesday Baltimore's asking price includes at least two young starting pitchers either already in the majors or close to it. That's a price that the Phillies and general manager Matt Klentak are unlikely to pay, especially considering Machado will be on the market as a free agent next year.
