Manager Pete Mackanin has his office door open, he's just waiting to see if Maikel Franco pops in. Until then, it appears Franco may continue to ride the pine.

"It's a day-to-day thing," Mackanin said prior to Wednesday's contest against the Rockies. "There is no specific plan."

The Phillies have lost 19 of their last 23 games and though Franco isn't the lone under-performer, he's reached a pivotal spot in his development where he needs to take another step to show he's a legitimate piece of this Phillies rebuild. He's slashing 221/.281/.377.

"I’m just trying to stay mentally ready, and if I see the lineup and I’m playing, I’ll go to play," Franco said. "If I’m not, I just try to get relaxed, enjoy the day, and do everything I can do."

Andres Blanco starts at third tonight.
