Philadelphia Baseball Review - Villanova's Hunter Schryver named Big East Preseason Pitcher of the Year
Villanova senior left-hander Hunter Schryver was named the Big East Preseason Pitcher of the Year by the conference. He also was the lone Villanova player included on the preseason All-Big East Conference team.

Schryver went 6-4 with a 2.64 ERA in 15 appearances last season and recorded the lowest ERA by a Villanova starter since 2000. He was both a first team All-Big East selection and the Philadelphia Big 5 Co-Pitcher of the Year. Against Big East foes he made six starts and went 3-2 with a 1.51 ERA and held opponents to a .166 batting average.

Following his 2016 season with the Wildcats Schryver excelled for the Newport Gulls of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, finishing 5-1 with a 1.75 ERA while being named First Team All-NECBL.

Along with Schryver, the Wildcats also return First Team All-Big East second baseman Todd Czinege. The now senior batted a team-high .307 last season and also led the team with a .395 on-base percentage, a .460 slugging percentage, 36 runs batted in and 93 total bases.

The Wildcats open the 2017 season on February 17 with a three-game set at Norfolk State.
